The Advisory Panel on Communications Concerning Territorial Integrity

In April of 2013, the “Advisory Panel on Communication Concerning Territorial Integrity” was set up, with the participation of top experts in respective fields, including international relations, international law and historical research.
The advisory panel is tasked with examining ways to advance academic research and communication strategies at home and abroad, with a view to enhancing the effectiveness of our communications on matters related to Japan’s territorial integrity, taking into account assertions and claims made by other concerned countries as well as perceptions among members of the international community.
In July of 2013, the panel submitted a report summarizing the findings that came out of the discussion among the participating experts.
In June of 2015, the panel submitted recommendations as a follow-up to the report submitted in 2013, in light of the governmental measures taken to date and the evolving international and domestic situations concerning territorial integrity.
The recommendations are being followed up on by the Japanese government as a whole, with relevant ministries and agencies coordinating their respective initiatives with each other.
The panel is expected to continue their activities with the participation of experts and academics in order to provide useful advices to the Japanese government.

Address by the Prime Minister

Prime Minister Abe attended the first meeting of the advisory panel, which was held on April 25, 2013. In his opening address, Prime Minister Abe stressed the importance of communications concerning territorial integrity at home and abroad.

Report of the Advisory Panel on Communications Concerning Territorial Integrity

On July 2 of 2013, the Advisory Panel submitted a report, which summarized the key findings that had come out of the discussion among their participants. The report,“Toward Stronger Strategic Communications - Report of the Advisory Panel on Communications Concerning Territorial Integrity”, contains a number of important recommendations for the Japanese government.
