Mr. Yoshitami Kameoka, then Parliamentary Secretary of the Cabinet Office, attended the 9th Ceremony of "Takeshima Day" organized by Shimane Prefecture on February 22, 2014.The attendance of Mr. Kameoka to the ceremony of “Takeshima Day” in 2014 was the second occasion where a high-level government representative attended at the ceremony, following the attendance of Ms. Aiko Shimajiri, then Parliamentary Secretary of the Cabinet Office, and now the Minister in Charge of Territorial Issues, to the 8th Ceremony of “Takeshima Day” in 2013.

4.Summary/ Overview
Former Parliamentary Secretary Kameoka paid tribute in his remark at the
ceremony to the consistent efforts made by people including those in Shimane
prefecture in order to resolve the issue of Takeshima.
Former Parliamentary Secretary Kameoka stated that Takeshima is indisputably
an inherent part of the territory of Japan in light of historical facts
and based upon international law, stressing that the resolution of the
issue of Takeshima is an extremely important sovereignty issue for Japan.
Former Parliamentary Secretary Kameoka said that, determined to resolutely
defend the lives and properties of Japanese people, as well as Japan's
territory, territorial waters and air space, the government of Japan will
continue its utmost effort to resolve the issue of Takeshima, calmly and
peacefully, in accordance with international law. Prior to attending the
ceremony, then Parliamentary Secretary Kameoka visited the exhibition,
"Takeshima in old maps and pictures", which was held at the Takeshima
Archive as a special event in conjunction with "Takeshima Day".
