Okinawa Prefecture Sakishima Fisheries Survey
Mori Fusajiro, Fisheries Society of Japan
In both September and October last year, I was assigned to conduct a survey on fisheries in Sakishima, Okinawa Prefecture. The locations were the islands of Iriomote, Ishigaki, Hatoma, Taketomi, Kuroshima and Aragusuku in the Sakishima Islands. I achieved this sometimes by walking along the coast, sometimes by cruising the coastal waters by boat. As for islands like Hateruma, Yonaguni and Kuba (uninhabited islands also called Kakusenjima [Senkaku Islands]), unfortunately no shipping service could be obtained. I regret that in the end I was not able to travel there.
