Regarding the trace of shipping agents, both MURAKAWA and OYA, it is widely known as "Takeshima-tokai" (Voyage to Takeshima (present-day Ulleungdo)). (text omitted) Jinkichi OYA moved from Tajima County to Yonago in 1615 and had a shipping business with people in the Hokuriku region.

Content | In the chapter on "Establishment of domain administration and its Organization" (pp. 568-570) in History of Tottori Prefecture Vol. 3, the Oya and Murakawa families are mentioned as early merchants of Yonago and Kurayoshi, and also described the background for voyages to Takeshima (present-day Ulleungdo). In the early 17th century in the Edo Period, the Oya and Murakawa families of Yonago obtained permission from the Shogunate and went out fishing at Takeshima (present-day Utsuryo Island (Ulleungdo)), and also fished at Matsushima (present-day Takeshima) along the way. |
