There has been another exchange of blows between Japan and South Korea over Takeshima in the Sea of Japan. Because South Korea protested about a Japanese patrol boat approaching Takeshima, Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a protest of its own to the South Korean delegation on the 25th, stating that Takeshima is clearly part of Japan's territory and asserting that Japan's actions are legitimate.
Takeshima was already deemed Japanese territory in the Tokugawa era (though then known as Matsushima), but was formally incorporated into the jurisdiction of Shimane Prefecture by Shimane Prefectural Notice No.40 dated February 22nd, 1905.
