It seems that what we know as Matsushima (present-day Takeshima) is what western people call Hornet Rocks. It seems that western people recognized Takeshima as Matsushima and consider that there is an island named Takeshima besides that. We can see that this Hornet Rocks belongs to the territory of Japan as seen on the maps of various countries.

This is the original text of what is included in "A Study of Historical Evidence of Takeshima". There are draft copies and fair copies. It includes a statement which says "We can see that this Hornet Rocks ((the name of) the island to be shown on some maps of western countries) belongs to the territory of Japan as seen on the maps of various countries.", and it thus reveals the recognition that Takeshima (then to be called Hornet Rocks) is Japanese territory. |
