Military plans weather stations on Uotsuri and Rasa Island as typhoon early warning sites
The military is reportedly planning to enhance its observation network by installing new weather stations on Uotsuri Island and Rasa Island in the Senkaku Islands (both uninhabited), and has recently asked the Central Meteorological Observatory to submit an estimate of costs. The assumption is that the cost will be covered by the military and the work will be commissioned to the Ryukyu Meteorological Observatory. Since these are both important early warning sites for meteorological observation, the plan will yield major effects in the early discovery and prediction of typhoons. As such, the Observatory is also very keen to have it implemented. (part omitted)
