Materials related to Takeshima and Matsushima found in the "Hikaecho (Memorandum)" of Tottori domain Administration

A ship owned by Jinkichi OYA of Yonago was struck by disaster on the way back from Takeshima. The ship was wrecked, but all members of the crew were safe. They were sent to the Office of the So family (of Tsushima Domain) in Pusanpo from Chōsen (Joseon), then, arrived in Tsushima, Japan, from Pusanpo. The letter of their arrival at Tsushima was sent to the Edo Shogunate from the So family. When the messenger arrived in Osaka-Kurayashiki, the story of this disaster was also communicated to the Tottori Domain.

Content Record kept by the Tottori Domain concerning the incident in which the Oya family was struck by disaster on the way home. The Oya and Murakawa families took turns to continue to sail for Takeshima (present-day Utsuryo Island (Ulleungdo)). In the early 17th century in the Edo Period, the Oya and Murakawa families of Yonago obtained permission from the Shogunate and went out fishing at Takeshima (present-day Utsuryo Island (Ulleungdo)), and also fished at Matsushima (present-day Takeshima) along the way.
