Koreans fishing in Takeshima
On the 25th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had sent a protest note to the South Korean delegation in Japan on the 23rd, concerning the fact that Korean fishermen had landed and were fishing in Takeshima, Shimane Prefecture at the end of May last. The position of the Japanese government is that Takeshima is Japanese territory, while South Korea has claimed the islands as its own. Although Korean fishermen appear to have occasionally visited Takeshima in the past, the government has confirmed that 30 fishermen landed on the islands in 10 fishing boats on May 28th last.
The protest made to the South Korean government this time denounces the fact that Koreans have landed on the Japanese territory of Takeshima without permission, and demands that there must be no recurrence in future.
