3. Implementation of Maritime Safety
(1) Guard of Territorial Sea around the Senkaku Islands
The guard of territorial sea around the Senkaku Islands was implemented not only by patrol vessels under this Headquarter, but also by vessels sent from other Headquarters. They engaged in policing intrusions into the territorial sea and illegal landings, and imposed strict guidance such as obtaining written pledges and ordering violating boats to leave. There were also 112 cases of Taiwanese fishing boats taking refuge from stormy weather inside the territorial sea (of Japan), and we have been making efforts to instruct these boats to leave as soon as the weather improves. Intrusions into the territorial sea and illegal landings were all made for the purposes of fishing and collecting medicinal plants, etc.
