4. Deep sea pole-and-line fishing trial
 Traditionally, these fisheries have been undertaken mainly around Sone (A submarine topography which is higher than the surrounding sea bed), but this year, surveys were conducted, placing a priority on the area around 100 fathom line, in the expectation of expanding fishing grounds and improving fish catch output.
 1) Vessel used: Chartered vessel Ryoshu Maru 30 tons 120HP
 2) Survey area:
  The first trial; the area around 100 fathom line surrounding Iriomote Island, Hateruma Island, Nakano-Kami Island
  The second trial; the coast of Ikema Island, Kobisho, the coastal waters of Uotsuri Island
  The third trial; the sea near Uotsuri Island
 3) Period
  Conducted 3 times; from March 9 to March 23, from April 6 to April 19 and, from April 22 to April 29 in 1959.
